Our Studio

In the 1890s, a visit to the photographer's parlour was an occasion. You sat very still on a velvet chair, the photographer disappeared under a black cloth, the flash powder went off with a bang and, a few days later, a cabinet card arrived with your portrait mounted on cream board.

Claret Parlour borrows that ceremony for three small games. Each one is a sitting: you choose your stake, press the shutter and watch the result develop. There is no rush between exposures.

What we make

• Glass Plate Reels, a cluster game where matching studio props develop away.
• Portrait Bingo, a single cabinet card and thirty numbers called by the studio bell.
• Flash Powder Duel, a high-card duel decided in one puff of flash powder.

Every game, illustration and photograph on the site was made for Claret Parlour. Results are drawn by your browser's cryptographic random number generator, and every paytable is printed beside its game.

What we never do

• Take payments of any kind, or sell Silver Plates.
• Offer prizes, cash-outs or rewards of real-world value.
• Run advertising, analytics or tracking.
• Let anyone under 18 take a seat.
